Michelle has been a Certified Municipal Clerk since 2009! The "CMC" designation, bestowed by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks ("IIMC"), follows a rigorous culmination of three years of training and experience in the City Clerk profession. I have also been an active member of the City Clerks Association of California ("CCAC") since 2006.
A hometown girl since 1982, Michelle is a graduate of Fremont Jr. High School, Santa Clara High School, and Oxnard College. She came back to Oxnard after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1999, married an Oxnard native, David Ascencion, and they are proudly raising their children here. Michelle's volunteer service includes Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts, Gold Coast Christian Church, Ventura County Rescue Mission, Oxnard Salsa Festival, and Port Hueneme Relay for Life. She currently serves on the City of Oxnard Library Board.
Michelle has 10 years of municipal experience, including 8 years as City Clerk in Port Hueneme and nearly a year at the Ventura Regional Sanitation District. Previous employment includes 5 years with local non-profit organizations (Ventura County Rescue Mission and American Cancer Society).
Michelle has received dozens of endorsements from elected officials and other community leaders who are personally familiar with her proven track record of competence, service, and integrity.
As an experienced, certified Clerk, Michelle is well-versed in the Public Records Act, Brown Act, Election Code, Political Reform Act, and all aspects of managing an efficient City Clerk's office. She has the training, knowledge, and expertise for the position, and she is eager and ready to put her skills to work for the people of Oxnard. She is the only candidate ready to step in and do the job from Day One. *No Learning Curve Needed!*
